With proper maintenance and care, a Fisher Wood Block will last a lifetime

General Do Not’s
  • Do not put your block in the dishwasher. Hot water and detergents will dry the block out causing it to warp and/or crack.
  • Do not use serrated knives on edge and face grain blocks. A serrated knife works like a saw with the resulting damage being proportional to how much pressure was applied to cut.
  • Do not use olive or vegetable oil, as they eventually turn rancid and produce a off-putting smell. Only use food-grade mineral oil based products.
  • Do not cut fish or poultry unless the Moisturize & Protect step has been followed thoroughly, thus ensuring a protective barrier.
  • Whether preparing food or cleaning your block, do not allow any liquids to stand longer than necessary as it negatively affects the structural integrity of the glued joints.
Moisturize & Protect
Apply a thin layer of Fisher Block Wax to all sides of your wood block using a paper towel or cloth. Allow the wax to penetrate into the wood overnight and follow up with a light buffing to remove any excess. The a food grade formula contains an oil that restores and moisturizes the wood, and a citrus wax blend to provide a protective layer against water and bacteria. Do not cut fish or poultry unless this step has been thoroughly followed, thus ensuring a protective barrier.

Cleaning & Sanitizing
Most importantly do not put your block in the dishwasher or wash it with detergents of any type! Cleaning your block is easy, simply wipe down all surfaces with mild dish soap and water.

Because we care that you enjoy the longevity and beauty of our wood blocks in your home, a 4oz tin of our Fisher Block Wax will be included with each block sold. At any time during the life of your block, should you feel it necessary, we will restore its cutting surface at no cost.
This includes sanding the surfaces smooth* and reapplication of the Fisher Block Wax. Please contact us for more information
